Have you ever imagined sleeping in a sports car? Sounds weird, right? Sports cars are super compact and can barely accommodate two people. However, if you own a Porsche, your fantasy of sleeping in or rather “on” a sports car could become a reality, thanks to an innovative new roof tent from Porsche Tequipment. This practical adventure equipment transforms the sports car into a hotel room at a campsite. Don’t believe us? Keep reading this blog from Porsche Delaware, in Newark, DE, to find out more.

Porsche Roof Tent from Porsche Tequipment

The Porsche roof tent has an exclusive hardcase developed at Porsche’s Weissach Development Centre in Germany and co-designed by Studio F.A. Porsche in Zell am See, Austria. This hardcase can be installed on the roof of several popular Porsche models including the Porsche Cayenne, Panamera, Macan, Taycan, and even the Porsche 911 – both with and without roof rails.

What’s inside the Porsche Roof Tent?

The roof tent floor surface measures 210 x 130 cm (roughly 6.8 feet x 4.3 feet) when extended, enough to allow two people to sleep snugly. It has an integrated high-density polyfoam mattress, and the tent walls feature a breathable cotton blend for ventilation. The all-season, waterproof roof tent is quite the room with a view, with two side windows and a roof window as standard. There are water-resistant zips and a separate rain cover for entry.

Moreover, the side walls inside the tent mimic the Porsche 911 flyline and feature a Porsche logo. The roof tent features a highly insulating quilted lining in light grey, the same quilting pattern as the mattress, and a head end featuring a mountain silhouette. You can fully open both the side windows for ventilation, and it even comes with an insect guard to keep mosquitoes and other insects at bay. There’s also an additional blackout function to keep the light out.

How Big is the Porsche Roof Tent?

The Porsche roof tent measures 146 x 140 x 33 cm (length x width x height) when folded and 258 x 257 x 118 cm in the extended position. It weighs approximately 56 kilograms or roughly 123 pounds and can withstand a maximum load when stationary of approx. 190 kg (419 pounds) on vehicles with roof rails or approx. 140 kg (308 pounds) on vehicles without roof rails. With the roof tent installed, you can also drive your Porsche at a top speed of up to 80 mph.

How to set up the Porsche Roof Tent?

Porsche says you can easily set up the roof tent. All you’ve got to do is open the lockable safety latches, lift the hardcase slightly and open it up with the help of two gas pressure shock absorbers. You then unfold the foot zone of the floor and stabilize it using the integrated telescopic ladder. The last step is to erect the tent and make it taut with the four poles.

The Porsche roof tent is available to order in Germany and other parts of Europe. Porsche hasn’t revealed its availability for the US market, but we’d love to see it here.
