2019 Porsche 911 vs 2019 BMW 8-Series

Over the years, the name Porsche has become synonymous with impeccable quality and performance. The Porsche 911 remains one of the longest-running nameplates in the realm of luxury vehicles. The secret to the long-held success is generations of intense fine-tuning and engineering, which has transformed the 911 into the adrenaline-inducing luxury car we see today.

Many automakers have set out to test the 911’s dominance. Today, we’ll see how BMW has stepped up to the challenge with this comparison of the 2019 Porsche 911 and the 2019 BMW 8-Series. We’ll start by taking a look at the entry-level models on each lineup in the table below.

Comparing the 2019 Porsche 911 and the 2019 BMW 8-Series

The BMW 850i xDrive luxury coupe puts out impressive figures with BMW’s 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, delivering 523 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque. The Porsche 911 blows far past these numbers with any of the GT or Turbo models, scoring up to 700 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque, but the Carrera S and Carrera 4S will get you as close as 420 horsepower and 368 lb-ft.

It’s also worth noting that the 850i xDrive luxury coupe doesn’t play well in efficiency, burning fuel fast at 18 city / 25 highway mpg. The 911 comes through with 20 city / 26 highway mpg on the Carrera S and Carrera 4S, achieving up to 20 city / 29 highway mpg on the base Carrera model.

Porsche has always had a way of leaving a good impression, and the 2019 Porsche 911 is a prime exemplar. The overall appearance is low, wide and sleek, standing on a set of 19-inch wheels. A new lighting design now incorporates bi-xenon headlights to complete the striking exterior appeal. When it comes to the interior, the 911 stays true to its racing heritage with a sporty design and easy-grip surfaces while packing the upscale allure and comfort of a luxury vehicle.

The 2019 BMW 8-Series is pleasant with an exterior design that is muscular and contemporary. On the inside, the BMW is sophisticated but comes out cramped in rear space. The model also can’t match the unique allure of the 911’s rich lineage.
